Win a cool $10,000 for your school!

Oceanic Time Warner Cable has launched its first ever Road Runner High School High Speed Video Contest, inviting high school students from across the state to test their filmmaking skills for a chance to win a grand prize of $10,000 for their school’s Multimedia Department. Students are challenged with creating a short video of 90 seconds or less that creatively answers the question, “What Does Road Runner Do For You?”

“Hawaii has an incredibly talented pool of student filmmakers, and we’re so pleased to be able to offer them an opportunity to share their talent and creativity using new media technologies,” said Alan Pollock, Oceanic’s Vice President of Marketing. “Considering the quality of our schools’ multimedia programs, the real challenge will be the actual task of selecting the winners.”

Now through October 30, 2010, high school students from across the state are invited to submit their videos online at http://www.oceanic.com/.  All approved videos will be uploaded to the contest YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/roadrunnervideo2010 for public voting from November 1 through 9, 2010. The top five videos earning the highest number of public votes will be selected as finalists, with an additional five finalists selected by a panel of designated judges. All ten finalists will be invited to a celebratory event at the Road Runner Music Hall, where a panel of celebrity judges will pick the top two winners. First place will receive $10,000 for their school’s Multimedia Department whiles the second place winner will receive three notebook computers for their school.

Submissions can be made by individuals or schools, and all participants must be currently enrolled in a Hawai’i high school. Submissions must fulfill the following requirements: 1) the video must be 90 seconds or less; 2) the work submitted is the entrant’s original, previously unpublished work that does not infringe upon the rights of any third party; and 3) the submission must include the school name, director’s name (first initial, last name for up to 5 people), the video title, and the Road Runner logo on the “lower third” of the video itself.
