Guess what I bought recently... Ha! Seriously tho' later this month I'll be joining fellow cartoonist DEB AOKI at the San Diego Comic Convention. I'll be selling prints of some comic strips, issues of Gordon Rider, and Gordon Rider hats - Whether they'll do well on the mainland... we'll see... Have a safe and fun 4th everyone - Jon J.

Hey, gang! Jon J. here! I'm waiting at the LAX for my next flight to the SAN DIEGO COMIC CON. (2 hour stop over - yikes...) I'll be at booth H-10 in the dealer's room from Wednesday night 7/23 - Sunday 7/27. If you're up here, come and swing by and say 'Aloha'. Deb Aoki will be popping in and out because she'll be working on her about.com column (check it out - it's cool). Fellow cartoonist Kevin Sano will be on the table with me selling his incredible sketchbooks and original prints! Also on our table will be Martin Hsu best known for his Ruby Gloom character found at Hot Topic! It should be exciting with tons of events. The cast from Heroes will be there and MANY MANY celebrities. Also Anime buffs - Tite Kubo, creator of Bleach will be there (Don't know if I can wait in line for an autograph since I'll be working the table...) Dan Akroyd & Ernie Hudson will be there talking about the upcoming Ghostbusters game for all systems, Samuel L. Jackson should be there promoting the Clone Wars series, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Cast from 24, Smallville, etc... Check out all the events at http://www.comic-con.org/ Of course it'll be great to see my friends up there and also we'll see how Gordon Rider does... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have to bring most of the comics back home! Ha! -jon j.

Aloha, All! Jon J. Again... Sitting back in the airport again waiting 3 hours for my next flight... Man, The San Diego Comic Con was a BLAST! Tho' I didn't get to see much of the panels, or run around as much as I wanted to, I got some cool toys, met some cool people, got some cool autographs, went to see some cool friends, and interacted with some really cool contacts! Gordon Rider did relatively well (considered I had to do a LOT of explaining and show a photo of Gordon actually dressed up which may have either helped or hindered the sales...) and I didn't bring back ANY of my children's books from Hawaii! (Although I brought back a LOT of other artist's books). I'm amazed how many people from Hawaii flew up to this and how many people I met that were FROM Hawaii and now relocated on the mainland! Thanks for everyone who stopped by. It's DEFINITELY different being an exhibitor than a spectator. Deb, Martin, Mike, Pascal, Vin, Eric. You guys were the bomb! Thanks for ALL of your help! Steph, Jeff, Crystal, Derek, Alan, Mike, Leon, Linda, Phil O.: great to meet all of you! Of course it was awesome to see my old friends again: Phil, Scott, Stan, Steve, Greg, Phuong-Mai, Robyn, Gen, & Derek. (Yes! I hooked up with Gen, who also writes columns for this site!) Kudos to the Hawaii crew: Kevin Sano, Bruce, Erika, Billy, Candace, Keizo, David, and Jarnelle. Also the artists, which some remembered me from some 3 years ago: Dean Yeagle, Sergio Aragones, Hiro Mashima (artist of Rave Master & Fairy Tail), Jeff Keane (Family Circus),and many, many more! And it was really awesome to run into import model from Hawaii, now based in California- FLO JALIN who also remembered me! A sweet, attractive, woman that I've had the pleasure to get to know a little better this time around! Sorry - that this seemed like an Oscar award speech, but I just wanted to thank ALL these people who made this trip really special. (If I forgot your name, I apologize, but you know I appreciated seeing you!) There were a lot of crazy adventures that went on at this con this year - like the hairy guy who was getting people to sign his arms...! Whether I go back to the SDCC again next year? Who knows? Whether I make strips about these experiences? I'll think about it... Regardless, I can't wait to get back to Hawaii! Thanks for reading! -jon j.
