Surf's Up (2007)
Even though audiences have had their fill of penguin movies in the past few years - Happy Feet (2006) and March of the Penguins (2005) - Surf's Up is still a great one to watch. It's more than just a story about penguins, it genuinely has an inspirational message for kids and adults alike. You learn that friends and having fun are more important than winning. More »

10,000 B.C.
Rated 5.0 Stars
If 10,000 B.C. was marketed as a fantasy adventure, maybe critics and audiences alike would have not been so disappointed. But with the expectation that this was a dramatic action adventure film, the historical inaccuracies and generic story line left me deceived and unsatisfied. More »

Q & A With Actor Shunsuke Ikeda
Rated 5.0 Stars
I recently returned from our world premiere of Blood of the Samurai 2 and Ninja EX in Japan! Wow... talk about an incredible experience! We were invited to screen at Toei Studios (also known as Eigamura) and at the highly prestigious Ritsumeikan Universty in Kyoto. Having my work play in Japan was such an incredible dream come true. The Departed (2006)
Based upon the hugely popular 2002 Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs, The Departed remains remarkably true to its original form. But director Martin Scorsese takes this story a step further through deeper, more vulnerable characters. More »

Fred Claus
After Wedding Crashers (2005), director David Dobkin and Vince Vaughn rejoin in this early holiday, family-fest movie. But unlike the crazy success of Wedding Crashers, Fred Claus is a simple and predictable story. As long as your expectations are low, I'd recommend this movie. More »

Reincarnation
Japanese director Takashi Shimizu creates another mind-blowing addition to the J-horror genre. Although I may not have cared for Ju-on (2002)--later remade with American actors in The Grudge (2004)--Shimizu's Reincarnation is a tightly-woven story that unravels perfectly. More »

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Rated 1.0 Stars
Once again, Michael Cera is perfectly cast in another offbeat teen comedy as the sensitive and charming high school nerd in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Much like his roles in Superbad (2007) and Juno (2007), Cera is not the typical male love interest, but his shy and honest demeanor heightens his popularity on the screen. More »

Over the Hedge
After a stream of duds like The Wild (2006), I stayed away from animated films at the theatre. But when I received free movie passes to see Over the Hedge, I couldn't pass it up. And to my surprise, I was rather entertained by the creative characters and touching story. At more than one occasion, I even cried because the scenes were so heartfelt. More »

Ocean's Thirteen
Once again, Ocean's gang proves they can outsmart anyone and still look cool at the same time. While their membership count is gradually increasing, the group remains a tightly-knit team. Simply put, Ocean's Thirteen - and all the other Ocean films for that matter - is fun to watch. More »

Q & A With Producer Roger Garcia
Rated 5.0 Stars
QUESTION: What are some of your favorite movies?
ANSWER: I am a big fan of martial arts master filmmaker Liu Jialiang and wrote about his work in 1980, as well as visited him on set at Shaw Bros to watch him shooting at that time. Liu Jialiang's film DIRTY HO is one of two masterpieces of Hong Kong cinema. The other masterpiece is Allen Fong's AH YING which is one of the most accurate portrayals of Hong Kong sensibilities and life in the late 20th century. More »
