10,000 B.C.
Rated 5.0 Stars
If 10,000 B.C. was marketed as a fantasy adventure, maybe critics and audiences alike would have not been so disappointed. But with the expectation that this was a dramatic action adventure film, the historical inaccuracies and generic story line left me deceived and unsatisfied. More »

Failure to Launch
Rarely do supporting actors rescue a story from failure, but in Failure to Launch the supporting characters were surprisingly more interesting and quirky than the protagonists. The supporting characters to the romantic lead saved - and maybe even stole - the movie. More »

Reincarnation
Japanese director Takashi Shimizu creates another mind-blowing addition to the J-horror genre. Although I may not have cared for Ju-on (2002)--later remade with American actors in The Grudge (2004)--Shimizu's Reincarnation is a tightly-woven story that unravels perfectly. More »

Superman Returns
Is Brandon Routh convincing as the new Superman? After nearly thirty years since Richard Donner's original Superman movie in 1978, director Bryan Singer attempts to revive the first superhero that hit theatres. Of course, Singer had two different audiences to please: the young audience that expected great special effects and entertaining characters, and the audience that grew up with the super hero and anticipated a film just as great as when Christopher Reeve played Superman. The Da Vinci Code
Obviously it's hard to accurately adapt a novel into a movie. Already having read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, I eagerly anticipated the release of Ron Howard's film. I absolutely loved the book; it was smart, exciting, fascinating, and fun. To my surprise, so was the movie. So then it also came as quite a surprise to me when I saw the rating The Da Vinci Code received on Rotten Tomatoes: 24%. More »

The Departed (2006)
Based upon the hugely popular 2002 Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs, The Departed remains remarkably true to its original form. But director Martin Scorsese takes this story a step further through deeper, more vulnerable characters. More »

Over the Hedge
After a stream of duds like The Wild (2006), I stayed away from animated films at the theatre. But when I received free movie passes to see Over the Hedge, I couldn't pass it up. And to my surprise, I was rather entertained by the creative characters and touching story. At more than one occasion, I even cried because the scenes were so heartfelt. More »

Scoop
From deadly serious Match Point (2005) to light comedic Scoop, director Woody Allen brings yet another original story to theatres. Unlike many directors, Allen has tackled several different genres through his directing career, always trying to do something new. Despite some of his work not receiving as much praise as others, Allen should be given credit for his creative, bold and witty stories. More »

Dreamgirls
From the very beginning, Dreamgirls takes you on a memorable ride into the 60's. The rolling sounds of Motown music and rock n' roll surround this story about a singing group with a striking resemblance to the Supremes. Although credit is given to director Bill Condon (also screenwriter for Chicago [2002]) for his creative adaptation from Broadway music to film, everyone comes out of the theatre talking about Jennifer Hudson's amazing debut.
