Is The Silver Surfer a hero or a villain?
Both. He starts off to be like a villain, but he later turns out to be a heroic ally.
Who will be playing the Silver Surfer?
He will be an all CGI character; meaning that he will be created in computers, similar to how they created the new King Kong or the slinky creature Golum from Lord of the Rings.
It is rumored that the Silver Surfer will be played by actor Doug Jones. He played the fish-like hero Abe Sapien in another hit comic book movie Hellboy (2004).

The Silver Surfer is an INCREDIBLY popular character and is quite iconic in the comic book world. So it surprises me that he is finally making his film debut after all these decades. Like Spiderman, Blade, Daredevil, Ghost Rider and other cool Marvel comic book characters brought to life on the big screen, I believe that The Silver Surfer would have been worthy enough of a character to have debuted and starred in his own movie. That's why I find it quite a surprising, and smart move by 20th Century Fox, to add The Silver Surfer into the next Fantastic Four movie. Fans of The Silver Surfer comic books will flock to see their beloved character debut on the big screen; and fans of The Fantastic Four will flock to see the continuing adventures of their beloved characters returning to the big screen. You basically have the built in interest of TWO huge fan bases, excited to see the next new The Fantastic Four movie. Also, if you are a fan of both comics, like me, then you'll be getting two for the price of one! Saa-WEET!

As an incredibly versatile actor, it will be fascinating and exciting to see Heath Ledger playing a clown faced, psychotic mass murderer that threatens the people of Gotham City.

What is it About?
The story is being kept a secret for now, but comic book fans were thrilled and relieved to hear that director Chris Nolan will be basing his new Batman movie to be more like The Killing Joke; a very serious and dark story of how The Joker torments Batman. It also probably means that this will most likely be a much scarier version of The Joker; and not the goofy Joker that mainstream audiences are most familiar with. You can bet that the fanboys and fangirls will be smiling with pure delight when they finally get to see a version of The Joker that is faithful to the books!
Judging from the highly positive reaction towards Batman Begins, I'm sure that the mainstream audience and the non-comic book readers, will also be interested in seeing another real story of Batman again.
