Nestled along Kauai's rugged Na Pali coast, Kalalau Valley was once home to thousands of ancient Hawaiians. Today it is a world-class backpacker's destination, it's cascading stream carving a beautifully sculpted terrain, filled with lush jungle and abundant fruit trees. Banana, papaya, mango, orange, avocado and many other exotic fruits have been planted over the years, to the delight of adventurous visitors.

Surrounded by impossible steep, impossibly green pinnacles, this modern paradise still maintains an aura of magic as the Na Pali mists wend their way among the verdant peaks. An immense stretch of pristine white sand beach lies at the mouth of the valley, where whales can be seen cavorting offshore beyond the daunting winter surf, and miraculous sunsets are the norm.

Wow Great Job on your photos. We have been down this trail two times and on our way back at the end of May. We Love It!! We have also met some incredible people along the way.... Get on the trail as early as possible...the sun and heat gets bad!Lightweight sunblock and hat a must....we also have lightweight easy to dry towels much easier to rinse out and re-use....(bring bio~degradeable soap, get a soap that has multi uses...hair, body, dishes, clothes....etc...and do be respectful to what you put in the water...not only can it hurt the environment but someone may be right down the stream from you ) Have your permit $10.00 a night per person..well worth it when the Officer's show up handing out $100.00 or more per person fine's, then you have to hike right back out ....thats a real long hike to take a chance. :( Bring plenty of food ...( We have ran into people out of water and food, they had not prepared...thankfully most people will help if they can...We dont take the chance) Very serious...this is not a hike to mess around with. Dizzyness will occur!!! We get the dry packed food at REI and most of it is Great!!!!! Add hot water and your good!!! Some of the cereal's only need cold water. :) These are Very light easy to pack in with.. You must think of weight...its a hot long hike...We have backpackers extra light equipment... best for this hike, its lighter equipment. We also have a small water filter and tablets...very worth it (On the 6th of Feb a lady had to be rescued , she was I'll after drinking the water!!!) Bring lights..we bring the lights you can strap to your head, this helps to get around in the dark and to see in the restrooms..and they are hands free...Leaves your hands free to be carrying your walking stick (Walking sticks are very useful as you get into the trail...) Someone was asking about the cliff, if im right I think its in between mile 7 & 8, Best thing to do be prepared.. stay the night at mile 6, restrooms, stream, and small tent sites avail first come basis....then carry on to kalalau beach. If you start fresh in the am @ mile 6 you will be at the beach within 3-4 hours of steady hiking...be sure to enjoy the most awesome views as your hiking in....also, Enjoy the mile long beach at Kalalau, , but talk to people about sites they can direct you to , you will find some incredible hikes, views, waterfalls............. At the mile long beach you will find restrooms and campsites (campsites by permit only, be careful I have been coming down the trail where people had just been fined for not having a permit P.S Read the Warning Signs....... Dont drink the water without filters or tablets... ENJOY....BE SAFE!

Hey Guys...You've got some great shots, Kauai is a beautiful island, just as the others are as well. Each island seems to have something that makes it unique in it's own way. We all are lucky to be living in such a beautiful state.
