HELP ME WITH RATINGS

On Molokai, a short 200-yard stroll from the Kalaupapa Lookout is Phallic Rock (Kaule o Nanahoa). You will find this six foot tall petroglyph located on the side of Nananhoa Hill.

Legend has it that the male fertility god Nananhoa was admiring a beautiful young girl at the pool. His wife, Kawahuna grabbed the girl by the hair in a jealous rage when Nananhoa angrily struck his wife who fell down the hill turning into stone. Nananhoa then turned into this stone Phallic Rock as you see today.

So was it naturally formed, or maybe carved a bit or does legend have the facts correct? It will be up to you to decide when you visit this very magical iron wood forest where it all took place. Over the ages women bring offerings and stay the night at this site in hopes of having a child. Even today, women still come here and pray and give offerings in hopes of having a child.

Bring your camera and your imagination and you are sure to have a day to remember at this ancient site of fertility and love.
