Russell Oshita
Russell Oshita graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1975 with a degree in Fine Arts. He then focused his artistic and creative abilities on designing and making jewelry. After many years of pleasing clients, and with a faithful following, Russell began to market and sell loose diamonds.Russell had been fortunate enough to meet and become close to several major cutters and dealers in the diamond industry. These individuals trusted him enough to share the secrets of their industry with Russell. He learned about everything that affected diamond beauty. He also learned about the different diamond grading systems, the differences between the different gemological laboratories and the intricacies of the diamond business. He became enamored with these beautiful stones.With this knowledge, it was apparent that consumers were purchasing stones with no real knowledge of diamonds. The move to market and sell diamonds was motivated by an urge to fill a need that existed here in Hawaii - the need for a diamond seller who (1) shared his knowledge with his clients and (2) used his knowledge for the benefit of his customers. Russell was carried by a passion to share with consumers his appreciation for diamonds - the ultimate symbol of romance. Russell Oshita is currently the President of The Diamond Specialists, Inc. that was formed in 1986 with two priorities in mind. The first was to educate their clients in the purchasing diamonds and jewelry. The second was to provide these products, at the best prices and values, to these clients. The purpose of this column is simply to share some of our knowledge and experiences with everyone. Enjoy!
