I went to graduate school in Chicago and that was enough to convince me: I was moving back to Hawaii ASAP.
It's not that I didn't like Chicago. In fact, I love that city. The food, the outdoor festivals, the hot dog street vendors - aside from the weather and spotty crime rate, it's a perfect city.
But there's something about Hawaii that lures back anyone who's lived here. It's that feeling you get when you paddle out at first light or when you pull into Rainbow Drive-In and your mouth is already watering for that barbecue pork plate lunch. It's the way local drivers wave after they change lanes or coworkers don't hesitate to buy huli huli chicken tickets.
It's why we love Hawaii.
So I decided to share with you the reasons why I came home - and why I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
Every month I'll post one of my favorite things to do, places to go or foods to eat - the things I missed most when I was away at college and the stuff I plan to indulge in this summer. From my favorite lunch wagons to the places I buy bikinis, I'll share with you all the reasons why I love this island state.
So stop by next month. I hope my entries inspire you to take advantage of this place we're lucky enough to call home.
