HELP ME WITH RATINGS
Buddy on Lanikai Beach

Don’t laugh.  Some humans do things to their pet’s and I think it is time to put our paw’s on the table and be honest with how we pet’s really feel.  I can only speak from my point of view as a dog.  I have some kitty friends, but most of them run away from me.  I like cats but they get all hissey with me.

I found this site on the internet and it says it all for us dogs.  Mom cleaned it up a bit.  You can see the original version at the site below.  This is one of the places our humans get doggie news.

Top Dog pet peeves about humans

The sleight of hand, fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog! What a proud moment for the top of the food chain, you tard.
Blaming your farts on me...not funny.

Yelling at me for barking... I'M A DOG YOU IDIOT!!

How you naively believe that the stupid cat isn't all over everything while you're gone. (Have you noticed that your toothbrush tastes a little like kitty litter?)

Taking me for a walk, then not letting me check stuff out. Exactly who's walk is this anyway?

Any trick that involves balancing food on my nose...stop it.

Yelling at me for rubbing my rear on your carpet. Why'd you buy carpet?

Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry but I haven't quite mastered that handshake thing yet.

Dog sweaters. Have you noticed the fur?

Any haircut that involves bows or ribbons. Now you know why we chew your stuff up when you're not home.

When you pick up the poop piles in the yard. Do you realize how far behind schedule that puts me?

Taking me to the vet for "the big snip", then acting surprised when I freak out every time we go back.

Invisible fences. Why do you insist on messing with us?

My mom talks about me as if I were her child.  Some people think my mom should treat me like a dog, not a human.  There are people who do not like dogs and that is ok, but don’t judge the folks who love their dogs like family.  I am the most loyal, loving, creature because I am a dog.  I am always happy to see my mom.  Lot’s of people love their dogs as the most important thing in their life.  People spend more money pampering their pets than some human’s do for their family.  It is ok to love your dog or cat.  We turn that love back around and send it right back at you.

My biggest pet peeve is dog fighting.  What sort of idiot would make a dog fight?  And how about the people who watch the fight’s….more idiots.  This dog fighting is all wrong.  I think those bad people should be put in a small cage and be fed from a bowl on the floor.

We need more pet friendly apartments.  People want to own dogs.  There are so many dogs and cats that need homes and because of the shortage of homes some of the animals are killed in the shelters.  Too many animals…not enough homes.  If apartments let people have pets this might save some poor animals lives.  It would also make some folks really happy to have a loving pet.

I just want to add one really important comment about apartments. Don’t get a big dog for a small apartment.  A big dog like me gets crazy being indoors and cramped all day while you are gone.  We pets get separation anxiety.  That is why we chew up the stuff in your house.  How long can you wait to go to the bathroom when you really have to go?

Another one of my pet peeves is when folks let their dogs ride in the front seat of the car without a doggie seat belt.  Worse yet is a dog riding on the drivers lap…not good driving habits.  The scariest thing of all is the dog riding in the back of an open pick up truck. What are these careless people thinking when they put a dog in a moving truck running around loose?

Then how about the dogs chained to trees or fences or anything.  Don’t get a dog if you have to chain it up.  Selfish people get dogs and do not care for them. All my dog friends know someone like that.  It is too bad that dogs cannot talk.  If it weren’t for me, you humans might not know some of this important information.

Lastly and just as distasteful to me is the dog that is left outdoors in bad weather.  In Hawaii a dog needs to be shaded if it is left outside.  Mom took me to a dog sitter in Kaneohe once and she saw a dog chained to a tree next door to the sitter’s house.  Mom asked the sitter lady if she knew the dog’s owners. The lady said she was afraid of turning the chained dog’s owners in to animal control for fear of retaliation.  My mom asked the lady how she could claim to love animals and live next door to a dog that was being abused and neglected. It is a hard call sometimes but people must do the right thing to help a dog.

My mom decided not to leave me with that sitter lady and called the animal control.  The animal control folks came to the dog’s house and cited the people for leaving the dog with no shade, no water, and no food.  Mom even went back to check on the dog.  The poor dog chained to a tree with a heavy chain made her sick to her stomach.

Most of you humans are good to us animal’s and we appreciate the love and caring.  I got an email a few weeks ago from Governor Linda Lingle and she asked me to share some good news with you doggie people. My dog and cat pals love Linda Lingle for standing up for us.

Mom and I at Kailua Beach

“The Hawai`i Department of Agriculture (HDOA) has implemented a program to allow qualified dogs and cats to enter Hawai`i through neighbor island airports on Kaua`i, Maui and in Kona, if owners comply with additional requirements for the Five-Day-or-Less rabies quarantine program. Establishing the neighbor island release program was challenging due to the lack of animal holding facilities on the neighbor islands, no state animal inspectors on neighbor islands and difficulties in finding private veterinarians to participate in the program.

A checklist is available on the department’s web site that outlines the requirements for neighbor island releases.  Pet owners are advised to check with their airline as all carriers may not be participating in flying dogs and cats to islands other than O`ahu.”

what a delightful summary about the feelings of a dog. You are so good to let people know how dogs really feel when certain things that humans do to them really make them feel really bad. I hope that a lot of pet owners and even people without pets read your columns each month Buddy as you really know how to tell how it really it. Angie

I am so happy to read this months column.. More people need to be aware that there are dangers out in the world from crazies chaining , beating and abusing animals. Glad Governor Lingle is helping make some things happen... it takes awhile ... but it will be a step in the right direction. miss you Buddy Love, Tutu

Aloha Buddy: Thanks for the Great Dog perspective in this month's column. The bottom line is: No body will love you as deeply and unconditionally as a dog. No body will greet you with such consistent enthusiasm as a dog. No body will stand by you - for better or for worse, like a dog. No body will stick with you during your cries - of joy and dispair- like a dog. Finally... There is no such thing as a throwaway; adopt a dog today! Aloha... KonaBoy and Magic

I commented already in this months column but it came to my mind that animal abuse is also if a dog or any pet lives in a home where there is contstant bickering among the people living with the animal and I don't think people give much thought to that.
