Do you wonder when to turn off your personal computer to avoid wasting energy?
To save energy consider doing the following:- Turn off the monitor if you are not going to use your PC for more than 20 minutes.
- Turn off both the CPU and monitor if you are not going to use your PC for more than two hours.
- You can also check to see if your PC comes with a power-down or sleep mode feature for the CPU and monitor. If it does, be sure to set it up through your operating system software, otherwise the PC will not power down.
Note that screen savers are not energy savers. In fact, using a screen saver may use more energy than not using one, and the power-down feature may not work if you have a screen saver activated.
- Plug your monitor and printer into a power strip or surge protector and when not in use turn off the switch on the power strip to prevent the equipment from drawing power even while it is shut off. If you don't use a power strip, unplug the equipment when not in use.
If you are planning on buying a computer, buy a PC with the ENERGY STAR® label. Only the most energy-efficient products qualify for the ENERGY STAR designation.
