Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…We’ve all heard this old saying, but one of the newest trends is turning to... well, the OLD! We’ve been hearing all about “vintage” weddings and are blown away with how beautiful and elegant these weddings can be.
So just how do you incorporate a vintage style into your wedding without making it look... dare we say... OLD?! We’ve broken it down into three simple steps…(now if only planning everything about your wedding was this easy!).
Step 1: Get to know your past.
What era do you want to emulate? Do you want the old Hollywood glamor of the 1940s? How about the sweet, Pleasantville-esque nature of the 1950s? Or do you want to get down and funky in a Studio 54 vibe? All fall under the umbrella term “vintage” but are so different. All have the potential to give your wedding that unique twist that will blow your guests away, so which theme do you want to choose for your wedding?
Step 2: Get creative!
You can add vintage touches to practically everything in your wedding. Here are a few of our favorite vintage inspirations.
-Give your tent the royal treatment.
Beautiful from afar and breathtaking up close; tent treatments absolutely radiate old Hollywood glamor and decadence. Royal Party Rentals can kick up your tent with these stunning treatments that will leave your guests speechless. Illuminate the details of these ceiling treatments with simple paper lanterns, or take the level of luxury up a notch by hanging chandeliers dripping with crystals. Royal Party Rentals can help your wedding exude vintage elegance from the very top to the bottom. Add your vintage tent to a backdrop of white wash walls like at the historic Bayer Estate and your vintage wedding will start to take shape!

-Feathers in your hair, feathers everywhere!
If the top of your tent gets the royal treatment, it only seems fitting that you should do the same for your head attire. But traditional veils and tiaras are just so boring for the bride who loves vintage. So what’s a bride to do? When decor specialist, Debbie Hemingway and makeup expert, Heather Saffery teamed up to create beautiful, head pieces, bouquets, purses and shoes under a new company, La Plume Couture, all a bride's vintage prayers were answered. Inspired by her grandmother’s vintage wooden sewing box, Debbie set out to create wildly feminine bouquets that her brides could preserve as a wedding keepsake. Nothing says vintage more than a dainty birdcage veil and La Plume Couture takes that beauty to a new level, adding plumes, rhinestones and tulle to create a hand-made, signature couture piece. If you can’t get enough plumes, La Plume Couture can elevate your shoes, purse, and bridal bouquet to vintage beauty status. Now that’s haute… couture, that is!

-Wine time.
Now a treat for your guests. (Of course we didn’t forget about them!) We went and found just about the most fun, classy, and TASTY table favor out there…WINE! To be more specific, completely customizable, create-and-taste-your-own-wine, wine. Shannon Ball at Wine The Experience is your personal wine making tour guide and will show you all the steps to creating your unique guest giveaway. The process is simple (and yummy): taste the wine, choose the wine, wait for the wine, bottle the wine, and give the wine away, oh and maybe drink some of the wine, too! Add that vintage touch to your custom wine in your custom designed label, with over 100 existing label templates and an option to design your own label from scratch, achieving a vintage style wine is easy and fun.

If you go to the lengths to dream up your perfect vintage wedding, get your guests involved! Great wording on an invitation can inspire and excite guests into breaking out their vintage hat, throwing on a string of pearls, or applying their reddest lipstick. Or perhaps you can create a cute photo shoot area stocked up with themed props from your era and your photographer can treat the pictures to make them perfectly worn and aged. Wedding photographer, Kris Labang talks about a super easy way to transform the vibe of a photograph, “Simply changing the color tone of the photo to sepia makes it look really vintage.”

Step 3: Break the mold.
Finally, it’s your wedding and you’ll mix and match if you want to. Don’t feel like you need to stick to one era and one style. There are many crossovers between decades so if you like how it looks, go for it! Let your imagination run wild and you’ll find inspiration everywhere you turn. Your wedding will be unique and beautiful. And now that you have the “something old” all set, time to find something new and blue! Happy planning!
