HELP ME WITH RATINGS

A happy graduateThe happy graduate
June is a busy month photographically speaking and everyone it seems, picks up their cameras during the month at some time. It is the season of graduations for both high school and college, not to mention Fathers Day mid-month. More weddings take place in June than any other month of the year.

OK, so that's not really news to most of us, though many of us miss the boat when it comes to remembering these special events with photos. The reasons vary, from forgetting our camera at home, to not recharging the battery, or not clearing our media cards since Mother’s Day, or worse, Christmas! What ever the reason, we have the solution for your season. A little preparation will insure that you get those all important event shots and we are here to help with a little reminder list.

The Ready List
  1. Charge your batteries Charge your batteries
Charge up those camera batteries. In fact, get an extra from your favorite camera accessory store.

  2. Clean your lens(es). This is something most people don't think about till it’s already too late. If the last place you took photos was the beach you might want to whip out the lens cloth, micro fiber rag and some lens solution.

  3. Download the pictures from your camera to your computer or online backup service or both, so you can format your media card.

  4. Father's DayHappy Father's Day!
Get an extra media card when you buy that battery just to have the backup.

  5. If you have a great camera on your phone (many smart phones do today), carry a lens cloth with you to wipe the lens with before you whip it out for pictures or video. Chances are you have touched the lens at least once and nobody wants to post a Facebook or blog photo that looks like it was taken under water.

  6. For those of you that carry a point and shoot camera, put it in the car or you purse on the 1st of June and make sure it goes with you to every event.

  7. If a dSLR is more your style, set your camera bag near where you store your keys at home as a reminder to bring it along when you leave the house.

  8. Be sure that if you have interchangeable lenses and/or an external flash, that they are in your bag and ready.

  9. Find out if your events will be indoors or out to insure that you have the right equipment with you when you arrive.

  10. Finally, after every event, offload your pictures to your computer, online storage or Facebook page for safe keeping.

This year enjoy your June photo events but more importantly, remember them with great photos by being ready. - Aloha
