HELP ME WITH RATINGS
The Problem:

We American are - in general - obese. We love our food, we love our portions and we rarely find the time to exercise regularly. Yes, there are those among us blessed with high metabolism, steely discipline and good habits. But the truth is, most of us are unfit.

This discussion is especially painful and relevant as we race towards the holiday season. The sun seems to set before we even have a chance to leave the office and there's never a shortage of something indulgent to put in our mouths.

So what do fitness and technology have in common?

The Solution:

Fitness has gone high tech. That's a good thing. And it's also good that it's never too late too late to start living up to those resolutions - especially now.

Harvard's Center for Cancer Prevention offers a useful site called www.YourDiseaseRisk.com. Developed over the past ten years, the site collects the latest scientific evidence on disease risk factors and provides you with a tool to assess your risk of developing significant diseases as well as personalized tips for preventing them.

For tracking your caloric intake, checkout www.MyFoodDiary.com. Among other things, this site offers tools for making decisions about food and exercise. Features include a food diary, an exercise log, charts, reports, and discussion forums.

If you're a runner, you've probably heard of new partnerships between companies like Nike and Apple. The idea is to personalize your audio experience while exercising: www.apple.com/ipod/nike. A sensor, placed in your shoes, sends data wirelessly to your iPod, providing feedback workout, like your heart rate and the distance run, for example. It also sends data that cab then be displayed on your computer after you're done.

If you're in the market for cardio equipment to boost your aerobic workouts and to, like an elliptical machine for the home or office, check out www.Precor.com. I use their equipment at Gold's Gym and I like the natural motion of their machines.

value is www.BodyForLife.com. The book, Body for Life by Bill Phillips, is a winner. The site offers some useful info, too, but its immediate value is the section titled Success Stories. Those are real stories with real results and can serve as an inspiring tool for getting started.

Good luck!
