HELP ME WITH RATINGS

There is more content available on the web now than ever before! With a mind-blowing amount of new content created every day, you would think there would be a whole slew of things you would find interesting out there. Is there an easy way to find what you really want?

The first thing that comes to most people’s mind is to “Google it”.  The problem with Google is that you need to know what you are looking for to search for it.

Another way you can learn about a new web site is to get a suggestion from a friend.  What if you have a million friends giving you suggestions? Well the folks at StumbleUpon has made this happen. Go to www.stumbleupon.com, sign up, download and install an add-on for the web browser (IE or FireFox) and tell StumbleUpon your interests (e.g. computers, video games, music, humor, photography). Now you are ready to receive suggestions from 3+ million users of StumbleUpon. Just click the Stumble button on StumbleUpon tool bar and it will take you to a web site in the categories you have interest in. After reviewing the web page, you click on the thumbs up or thumbs down button on the StumbleUpon tool bar. This helps refine your interest profile and provides your recommendation for others using StumbleUpon. When you are through looking at that website, just press the Stumble button again to get another suggestion. It’s that simple.

For example, I’m interesting in photography and I know of only a few web sites with great photographs. Well, StumbleUpon knows thousands of sites. I have seen some of the most amazing photographs using StumbleUpon that I would have never found on my own. Photos of Antarctica to the Great Wall of China are out there just waiting to be found.

You also can be the first to recommend a site that you have discovered. When you are on a web page you want to tell others about, press the thumbs up button which will bring up a window which you use to categorize the page you’re recommending. Now when others are looking for new sites, they will get your recommendation. Your StumbleUpon account automatically keeps track of the sites you liked so you can reach them again.

StumbleUpon has increased my enjoyment of the web tremendously by making it easy to get suggestions from others on things they found interesting. I think you will be amazed what you can find out there as well.

Happy StumbleUponing.
