I promised my Golden Retriever, Buddy that I would share at least one recipe for him and his dog pals. These fragrant, tasty dog brownies are a dual-purpose food. They are a tasty treat for your dog and have a proven FLEA FIGHTING ingredient. Whey powder has been touted as a flea-busting additive in dog foods. Garlic has also been touted for having the same properties.

This recipe is easy to make. You can freeze the extra brownies. Keep them in an airtight container or refrigerate after 2 days. They look good enough for humans to eat but are pungent enough to please the palates of most doggies.

If you are one of the lucky folks who own a dog, you probably already know that they are the only animal that is capable of unconditional love - love in its purest form. Not even humans are capable of this form of love. Children are born in this pure state of love.

Dogs do not lie. They are not capable of that human trait. They are smarter than humans in some ways. Dogs have a language of their own as well as the ability to understand human language. I read about deaf dogs that have been taught a form of sign language.

Lately I have been observing these incredible creatures and their interaction with other canines as well as humans.

My Golden Retriever is starting to make sounds that I associate with his needs. He is either hungry, needs to be walked, wants to play ball, or perhaps go for a ride in the car.

When a dog growls we assume certain things. When the dog moans, howls, cries, or yawns we can only assume by our standards what they are trying to convey. Is it fear, joy, hunger, anxiety? Are they capable of the same spectrum of human emotions?

Do dogs dream? I asked my little "Buddy" and he did not reply. I looked into his sweet brown eyes and felt I could see to his soul. Still no answer. When he sleeps I see his little furry feet moving in the air. Is he chasing a rabbit or being pursued by a grizzly bear?

Either way, no one knows for sure. What I do know for sure is that he loves my doggie recipes. He especially loves the flea fighting brownies.

Flea Fighting Brownies for Dogs
Ingredients needed:

2 boxes:"Jiffy" corn muffin mix
3 eggs
1 cup milk
10 cloves chopped garlic in 1/4 cup water
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup brewers yeast

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour both boxes of "Jiffy" muffin mix into a medium bowl. Add the flour and brewers yeast. Stir until evenly mixed. Set aside. Microwave the chopped garlic in water for 1 minute on high temperature. Pour the garlic and the water into the dry ingredients. Add 3 eggs and the milk. Stir all ingredients until just moistened.

Grease an 8 X 8 inch metal or glass bake pan. I use cooking spray. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Remove the brownies and cut into squares while warm. Place cut brownies close together on a flat cookie sheet and bake an additional 15 minutes at 375 degrees until brownies are brown on all sides. This extra baking helps dry them and keep them firmer.

Cool brownies thoroughly. I wrap them individually in plastic wrap. Great for gift giving to the neighbor's dog or freeze for future use.

Buddy wanted me to say hello to Cammie, Hector, Alex, Sheba, Oodles, Sparky, Princess, Boo, Zena, Rocky, and all his 4-legged dog park friends. He hopes you enjoy his mom's recipe.
