HELP ME WITH RATINGS

You can use any combination of ingredients but the more vegetables you use. The more moisture will be formed in the bread and cause it to get soggy.

Do not stuff the Stromboli too thick, as it will be difficult to cut and hard to eat. This recipe is a great food for a large, hungry group. It tastes delicious at room temperature and is a good choice for a pot luck gathering. You can use meats or just make vegetarian fillings. Use your imagination.

stromboli ingredients needed

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1 package Bridgford Ready Dough found in the freezer section
  • 1 eight ounce package shredded mozzarella or Italian cheese mixture
  • Olive oil
  • Oregano, parsley, garlic salt, pepper, parmesan cheese to sprinkle
  • Sesame seeds, optional
  • ½ cup spaghetti sauce red or alfredo sauce
Filling: Choose at least 2 of the following;
  • Pepperoni, Ham, Chicken, ground beef (cooked and drained of fat)
  • Spinach, Broccoli, Mushrooms, red or green peppers, onions

This recipe has a better success rate if you use cooked vegetables to stuff the Stromboli.

place frozen dough on pan to thaw 3 hrs

It is important that you let the bread dough thaw at room temperature at least 3 hours. In the warm Hawaii weather, the dough rises nicely and quickly. You can also thaw the frozen bread overnight in your refrigerator. I rub the top of the dough with olive oil generously at the beginning of the thaw process.

seasonings for stromboli

Remember to separate the loaves on the pan because as the rise they will need space to grow. Grease the pan with olive oil before placing the loaves to thaw. Sprinkle the top of each oiled loaf with oregano, garlic salt, pepper, parsley, or any of your favorite herbs.

stuffing ingredients stromboli

After the bread dough has risen handle it carefully as you slice an opening down the whole middle of it. Stuff the inside with your ingredient choices and sprinkle spices and parmesan cheese inside. Fold over the dough to completely seal the ingredients inside the bread loaf. You may need to sprinkle more herbs on the top of the loaf prior to baking. Make slits in the top of the loaf at 3-4 inch intervals before baking. Just cut into the bread part not into the loaf.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and baked the filled Stromboli loaf or loaves for 20-25 minutes. The loaves should be brown and firm to the touch.

I made 3 loaves and kept one. I gave the other 2 away, one to a neighbor and one to my Hanai mother. It is one of my greatest pleasures in life to spread the Aloha Spirit with food. I hope you will continue this tradition.
