Leilehua's Mason to Stage Two Q School
Rated 5.0 Stars
Hawaii's Leilehua grad and UH-Hilo graduate Nick Mason did. And he did it in style. He finished #1, medalist, in McKinney, Texas at one of the overflow courses. That's how many guys tried their way through Q-School at $4,000 just to get your entry form in. More »

World Series of Golf, Poker, Golf, Poker...
It’s a combination of golf and poker and it’s being played at the Primm Valley Golf Club in, where else, Las Vegas.  This is the inaugural World Series of Amateur Golf. More »

Girls Rule
Rated 5.0 Stars
It's been a whirlwind beginning of summer for Hawaii's busy junior golfers. The 2006 U.S. Women's Amateur champion, Kimberly Kim, is breaking records along with Stephanie Kono. Kono knocked out the medalist at the 2007 USGA Women's Amateur Public Links in the first round after Kono barely made it out of stroke play into the match play rounds. It was the first time in five years the medalist didn't make it to the match play portion of the prestigious event. Hawaii had 8 Hawaii players in the field! Plus the Wie, the Open, the rough and the rest. More »

Kawainui - Stream Hike to a Big Pool
Rated 5.0 Stars
One of the largest and deepest fresh water pools on Oahu is located along Kawainui Stream, in the northern part of the island. Lying deep within the foothills of the Koolau Mountains, the trail is not hiked often except by pig hunters, and the pool is seldom visited. More »

Tadd's First Pro Paycheck!
Rated 5.0 Stars
It wasn't exactly how Tadd Fujikawa wanted the final round of the Mid-Pacific Open golf tournament to play out. "First cut as a pro, and first win as a pro. Feeling pretty good," Fujikawa said. "Didn't really play too well today, it was a struggle. But luckily I grinded through it, made a lot of clutch puts toward the end." More »

Kalauao Stream and Waterfall
Last month's column featured Hamama Falls, which is easy to reach, but requires permission from the Board of Water Supply to access. This month, I describe another waterfall hike, which requires no permissions, but takes a little more effort. At four miles round trip, it is reasonably short, so it could be done as a half-day excursion. More »

See You at St. Andrews, Mr. Cink and Mr. Watson
Rated 4.3 Stars
I feel polluted writing my thoughts about the Open at Turnberry. Polluted by hundreds of articles I've read written by others to describe how they feel about Tom Watson losing to Stewart Cink. More »

Kuliouou Ridge Trail
Kuliouou is a fine hike leading from the suburbs of East Honolulu to the Koolau summit. Along the way it passes through several types of forest, starting with mixed secondary growth, followed by ironwoods, then Cook pine, and finally, near the summit, an almost native forest of ohia and lama trees. That makes the route shady, opening up only after reaching the final approach to the summit. More »

Kapalua's Girl Wins
Rated 5.0 Stars
We could call her Kapalua's "hanai" child. When Morgan Pressel found out there was no one on the LPGA Tour playing for Kapalua Resort, she asked to be the one to wear Kapalua's Butterfly logo. The folks at Kapalua said, "You've got it." And she does. More »

Kono Beats Hayashi
Rated 5.0 Stars
What can you say about this game. Stephanie Kono, heading to UCLA on a golf scholarship, beat the Aloha Section Player of the Year Kevin Hayashi and she did it on his home turf! I'm just thrilled she isn't immediately turning pro. More »

In His Honor; the 2009 Duke's Oceanfest
Duke Paoa Kahanamoku and his long, distinguished register of athletic accomplishments stand tall in the annals of sports history. Perhaps even more significant than his Olympic gold medals, world swimming records, introduction of surfing to the world, and other amazing feats, is the fact that Duke served Hawaii dutifully as its international ambassador of Aloha. Buffalo Keaulana said it best in a recent television special about Kahanamoku; "Duke was a Hawaiian." More »

A Giant Plastic Soup
To a large extent, the ocean's currents determine the Earth's weather events. Much of the planet's atmosphere reacts to the changing temperatures and oscillating dynamics of warm and cool water. Deep sea upwelling provides life giving nutrients and sustenance for marine life forms ranging from microscopic phytoplanktons on up to the colossal Blue Whale. Unfortunately, these currents also serve as the unwitting transit medium for tons of floating land and shipping originated debris... More »

Summer Is Here
Aloha, thanks for doing the blog tang with me! Lot's happening around town! Our Hawaii World Surf Team did a good job in France taking a bronze medal, almost getting the gold! The girls had a good start, solid wins in great surf by the way. France had a good shore break from 3 to 6 feet for the whole event so there were no lack of waves just a few waves not going all the way in. More »

Stand-up Surfing Ambassadors in England
Rated 5.0 Stars
On the first of October C4 Team representatives, Dave and Claudia Parmenter and I manned up an American Airlines 777 bound for London Heathrow, intent on sussing out the SUP situation in England, and to visit C4 team rider Adam Zervas and his family in Newquay, Cornwall, the "Surf City" of the United Kingdom. Kauai Surfer Girls Rock WQS Surf Tour
A blog is a blog is a blog. The word comes up misspelled but the idea is to write some crazy extreme mostly logical banter about what bugs ya mind! Well I am full of that lately but let's start with happy news. I feel proud to say one of our Hawaii surfer girls is on top of the WQS heap making a charge for getting on the World Tour of Surfing.
