Now is a great time to live on the North Shore. Yes the waves are coming and the rents are down, for the moment! Hot Tip!
There are lots of girls making names for themselves in the sports world. Happy to report that from the Sea Hawaii/One Love Surf Shop event at Kewalos more sponsorships were handed out. Now I need one, yes for me! Can a woman at 50 get a surfing sponsorship? Well yes of course! My current sponsors Xcel and Ratio Fins keep it going so there is hope for all out there. It's a good state for Women athletes, it's a booming market and people are watching the changes. The industry is changing in that the owners are more and more of the female gender and there are more opportunities for girls. The contest at Kewalos was going off. It was 3-5 feet and perfect for the weekend. One of Hawaii's most famous surfers dominated the field, winning in all three pro divisions. Getting the clean sweep was Carissa Moore, Princess of Kewalos.

Moore is a regular at Kewalos and has the place wired, her surfing was impeccable. She won the Longboard event, the Shortboard Pro Open and the Jr. Wow! You cannot say enough about her abilities. How does she do it? She works at it, hard! She even won the FLHI GIRLS trick heat. So girls practice your moves, endlessly and good things will happen. Oh yeah and be sure to say hello to all the photographers on the beach. That is tip number two. Don't be shy. They want to know the names attached to the shots they get so talk to them! Introduce our self
Other standouts of the contest were Aleesa Quizon who absolutely tore it up. She just missed winning by tenths of a point. She has nice tail slides and can throw it up hard. Check out this slash.

Horse Polo season was awesome this year. There are more and more ladies playing the game including a good surfer, Siri Masterson. The Wahine Challenge was played in September and the Women did super! There was one spill. Linda Gallagher went down but was fine. In the last game Siri broke an ancle, Ouch.

Recently Surfing World Champion Lynne Boyer was awarded "Woman of the Year" in Huntington Beach during the US Open of Surfing. Lynne is an artist now a days and still surfs a bit! Congrats Lynne!

There was more big news at the US Open of Surfing, Kauai's Malia Manuel won the main event at the tender age of 14, the youngest to ever win. Huntington Pier was the usual 2-4 max with the onshore reform Huntington hop, make it to the beach kind of wave. A hard win for a Hawaiian girl to accomplish and she did it with a wild card entry. Congrats for the international tour win! Meanwhile Hawaii's CoCo Ho was in the final and also won the Jr. Division of the event, that was even hotter!! CoCo is from the North Shore of Oahu. Congrats girls!

The Outrigger Duke's Oceanfest logo
The Outrigger Duke's Oceanfest kept me busy. It was a spectacular celebration of the Legend, Duke Kahanamoku. Duke was the "Father of Surfing", the "Ambassador of Aloha", an Olympic Gold medalist and the Sheriff of Honolulu. His life was celebrated in Waikiki with style. There were so many great water events including the Roxy Jam that was won by the current Longboard World Champion Joy Monahan. Joy was so patient, so stylish, she was awesome! Joy is married and going to school in Utah. Go Girl, study hard.

The Outrigger rough water swim was loaded with contestants. Check out the Wahine below, Sara Kahanamoku, she won the 14 age group. Sara is following in Duke's Footsteps, she is an accomplished swimmer now swimming for Kamehameha. Go Hawaiian! Wow what a great story, representing Hawaii, fantastic!

Last but not least a shout out to these girls from Aust who started the WBA, A Women's Bodyboarding organization. They are getting it together, working hard to run events and get the girls together.
