World Wide Ed

Edward Sugimoto
Edward Sugimoto is a long time web dude who comes from a journalistic family. His father writes entertaining columns for the East-West Journal, his mother was a radio personality in Japan, and his sister is a reporter for Hawaii News Now.

His first stab into the web world started at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a popular site called Ed-Land, which quickly became the University systems' #1 trafficked web site. Unfortunately, with the limited bandwidth of those days, the administration was forced to implement a mandatory data transfer limit, quickly curbing the success of all web sites on the hawaii.edu network. Shortly thereafter, Ed took those web marketing and blatant self-
promotion "skills" to another level with the award winning World Wide Ed web site, and followed that up with a regular column in the campus newspaper (Ka Leo O Hawaii), carrying the same WWE name. All of this tireless web work paid off when the then Online Editor of Oceanic Time Warner Cable discovered his resume online and quickly hired him as the Assistant Online Editor.

Today, he is the Online Editor and continues to be a self-proclaimed semi-webnerd, learning about and discovering new web trends and technologies in the industry. Ed is now moving towards the business and management aspects of the web, creating lasting relationships within the tight-knit social community, and discovering new and innovative ways to generate revenue for his employer, while also finding the time to pen his own "World Wide Ed" series of articles and blogs across the Internet, including here, his own web site, and the Honolulu Advertiser site.

Edward is a distinguished recipient of a Commendation from Governor Linda Lingle as well as the Mayor's Award of Recognition from Mayor Mufi Hanneman, being named 2006 Top 50 High Tech Leader in the State of Hawaii.

This column will be an almost Blog-like adventure that will include babblings ranging from computer help, anything around town, travelogues, and much, much more. Sit tight!
